There are some good movies and some great movies. But then again, there are some movies that when you look at them, you know they are going to get an Oscar nod. Here are five movies that astonishingly didn't even receive a single Oscar nomination.

I. The Shining (1980)

The Shining is one of America's favorite horror films of all time. It had the complete package. A Stephen King story, Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duvall in the lead, and the legendary director Stanley Kubrick at the helm. With over 45 million dollars of earnings worldwide, it was one of the top 10 highest-grossing movies of that year. It later went on to become a cult classic. It is quite disconcerting to see that it did not receive a single nomination.

II. Heat (1995)

This classic Al Pacino - Robert De Niro collaboration was a fan favorite that year. It earned a whopping 187 million dollars worldwide. Instead of a gangster movie, Van Kilmer decided to make a modern "cops & robbers" movie which was a fresh vision. Yet, the Oscar committee did not pay any heed to this movie. Perhaps, the release of the "Casino" by Martin Scorsese (a gangster flick) was the reason behind snubbing Heat.

III. American Psycho (2000)

If total commitment to the character had a face, it would be Christian Bale. Before putting on the Batman suit, in the late 90s, Bale had established himself as a solid actor but still failed to garner a lead role. American Psycho was his first lead-poster role and he made sure that it was perfect and it WAS! Michael Caine won the Oscar that year for Best Actor. Michael Caine is a fabulous actor no doubt but this was Christian Bale's best performance to date. It was a clear robbery and the same thing happened with Bale when he failed to get a nomination for "The Machinist" (2004). But later, maybe the Academy realized their mistake and finally gave him the golden lady for his role in "The Fighter" (2010).

IV. Once Upon A Time In America

The final movie of the legendary duo director Sergio Leone & composer Ennio Morricone did not fail to impress at all. It was a joy to watch and as a Cinephile, those four hours of a pure, classic gangster flick was overwhelming to watch. Personally, it is one of my all-time favorites and thus, it is a TOTAL SHOCK to see it get literally no Oscar nod whatsoever. The length of the movie could be one of the major reasons behind the snubbing of this movie but considering the powerful cast, Ennio Morricone with one of the most beautiful original score the world has ever heard, the fact that it took more than two decades to make this movie, and also the fact that it was Sergio Leone's last movie before his unfortunate demise should have garnered this movie an Oscar nod. Any excuse given otherwise is just a major DISRESPECT!

V. Zodiac (2007)

Everyone in Hollywood knows that David Fincher is the master of psychological thrillers. One such movie of his is Zodiac. It is filled with a star cast of Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., and Jake Gyllenhaal, and thus the experience that these actors bring to the table made it quite shocking to see the movie get snubbed for the Oscars. Sure, it was not a "Se7en" or a "Fight Club" but it was a fresh take. Something in the realm of psychological thrillers that were new to even David Fincher himself. The only reason behind this could be that the year 2007 presented a tough competition in terms of cinema.
