This Terrence Malick experimental film that questions the existence of faith through a story of a family dealing with problems. One of the most surreal, haunting, and majestic films, and the credits have to be given to the great cinematographer of all time Emmanuel Lubezki! He is the visionary behind visually satisfying films like Birdman, The Revenant, and Gravity. The visually were organic and not the regular master shots. The color, the natural touch, and depiction of surreal human imagination. This 3-hour long feel never feels dull because of its mastered visuals and story.


 

2.THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL


When you talk about Wes Anderson films the element of symmetry, smooth camera movements, radiant colors, and fantasized sets is a complete necessity but this film had raised the bar really high! to make it a complete stylized film. Anderson transports you back to the times of splendor and grandeur. Robert Yeoman, the man whose execution sank so well with Anderson that we can't imagine a film by him without the cinematographer. The Grand Budapest is a film which you can watch over and over again because of its unique take on an enticing plot.


 

3.BLADE RUNNER 2049



This Denis Villeneuve neo-noir sci-fi film seemed so perfect and entric that the future world seemed most realistic and no figment of the imagination. The silhouette shots, the neon yellows, the dusty orange, and the metropolis settings just gave a different feel to the film. Roger Deakins winning the Oscar for best visuals in the Oscars and the BAFTA seemed justified. A unique concept Weta Digital was used to build the entire California and 100s of people for the art director who created miniatures. This is a movie that has a complex storyline but the stunning visuals just make the entire run time worth it.


 

4.THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD


When you know Roger Deakins is your cinematographer you expect a lot of light contrast shots, pitch dark revealing of characters. This one of those films with exotic shots and very resonating themes.This period western hits the level of The Good, Bad, and The ugly but with a darker plot. Watch the film for its powerful visuals and acting.


 

5.STALKER


This Andrei Tarkovsky film is about the post-apocalyptic world with no past knowledge, no character past so it definitely talks time for a general human to get the storyline. But the visuals of the films about the fantasized place call the 'zone' and the 'Room' was so calm and euphoric at the same time that it takes you into the flow of the film. The poetic style of his filmmaking was supported so well martian setting which created a whole new level of curiosity. 42 years down the line this movie speaks a million words, thanks to its magical cinema work.
