The Psychology of: James Lort (Honey Boy)

Updated: Feb 7, 2021

I was sold the moment when I came to know the movie was about none other Shia Labeouf himself. And the character portrayed by him is of his own father. Shia Labeouf was a part of the world of films from a very young age but this one focuses on his unsettling yet mesmerizing relation with his father. James is abusive, neglectful, and a lying father which was mirrored from his own. He is an unpredictable man and one gets that from the very first scene itself. Deep down his character roots for his son. Certain scenes and frames showed the inner conflict he faces and vanward of his innate passion for making it big into his son.

Between all that chaos, aggressive shooting there are scenes of salutary happiness where you see James telling him," You are gonna be a star honey boy! that why I am here, I am your cheerleader! " You root for the character, sometimes feel clueless by his abrupt actions but you just want more of him on the screen. You are enraged by the way he treats his own soon but all broken when speaks his side of the story.

His performance gives depth to the film about flaws. His high temper, crying like a child all of it just resonated with regularly faced human emotions. Shia Labeouf is known for his unorthodox ways of getting into character here he himself was the screenwriter of the movie and he executed what he visioned. The character hasn't got enough credit for being utter realism in many ways.

It was a journey worth knowing rode by Labeouf's sublime performance, he would gladly say jail time was used to the fullest. Watch the movie now!
